Cecil Raymond Rushing
November 25, 1920 - July 12, 2012
Savannah- Cecil Raymond Rushing, 91, died Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Savannah Square under the care of Hospice Savannah.
He was born in Screven County and attended Savannah High School. In 1940, Mr. Rushing mobilized with the National Guard, 118th Field Artillery and served for three years. Soon after, he worked for one and a half years at Southeastern Shipyard. Mr. Rushing was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
In 1972, Mr. Rushing retired from Creole Petroleum Corporation, an affiliate of Exxon Mobile Corporation after twenty five years of service in Venezuela, South America. In 1984, he retired from Stock Equipment Company in Lynn Haven, Florida. Mr. Rushing was preceded in death by his wife of sixty one years, Burt McAllister Rushing.
Surviving to cherish his memory are sons, Phil Rushing Lynnof Canton, GA and James Rushing Minetteof Savannah; four grandchildren, Christopher Rushing Elba of Colorado Spring, CO, Jennifer Horton Jamie of White, GA, Elizabeth Rushing of New York, NY and Jonathan Rushing of Savannah; five great-grandchildren, and two sisters-in-law, Anne Hansen of Greenville, SC and Mary Collins of Savannah.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
